Top Loaders

Often called excavators, top loaders are any kind of loaders that use a bucket on an arm for top loading debris from an excavation site into a dump truck. When used as an excavator, a top loader is necessary in almost any construction situation because its hydraulic arm is ideal for digging and transporting small amounts of debris. But once there is a need to move debris farther than the length of the arm, top loaders are no longer very effective and a regular, or front, loader is necessary.

As you might expect, you will rarely see a top loader in someone's garage. That is because a top loader is expensive and difficult to store. Instead, almost every top loader is owned by a large construction company. The one exception is individuals who purchase a top loader to become an independent contractor and provide usage for a fee. These ventures can be extremely profitable offering incredible hourly rates if you find a company that doesn't already own a top loader.

Top Loader Rental. Because a top loader can be large and expensive, it is usually more practical to rent than own one. You can rent them daily, weekly, or monthly depending on your need. The longer you keep a top loader, the cheaper it is per day. Depending on the model, a loader rents daily for $200-$1000, weekly for $1200-$3200, and monthly for $2900-$9600. For rates in your area see Construction Equipment for Rent.
